The highly anticipated action drama "Om Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood," featuring Dhanush and Mammootty in leading roles, is reportedly considering a shift in its release calendar for 2026. Initially slated for October 16, the film may now opt for a late November or early December slot to avoid a direct box-office confrontation with Rajinikanth's "Jailer 2."

Strategic Release Shift

Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, "Om Chapter 1" was originally positioned to debut just one day after "Jailer 2," which is set to hit cinemas on October 15, 2026. However, to prevent a major clash between two high-profile South Indian films, the makers are reportedly exploring alternative dates. According to industry analyst Sreedhar Pillai, potential new release windows include November 27 or December 3, 2026.

The Streaming Platform's Influence

Adding another layer to the release date speculation, rumors suggest that Netflix, which reportedly holds the streaming rights for both "Om Chapter 1" and Prabhas’ upcoming film "Fauzi," might play a role in this decision. With "Fauzi" rumored to be vacating its December slot, it is believed that Netflix could allocate this prime year-end window to the Dhanush-Mammootty starrer. However, these discussions remain unconfirmed, and no official announcement has been made by the film's producers.

A Star-Studded Ensemble

"Om Chapter 1: Udhiram – The Blood Wood" is being developed as an action drama and marks the first installment of a planned two-part franchise. The film boasts an impressive cast alongside Dhanush and Mammootty, including Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela, and veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah in pivotal roles. The musical score, encompassing both songs and background compositions, is being crafted by Sai Abhyankkar.

Dhanush's Busy Slate

Dhanush was most recently seen in the action thriller "Kara," directed by Vignesh Raja. In "Kara," he portrayed Karasamy, a reformed thief compelled to return to his old ways to reclaim ancestral land and fulfill his father’s dying wish. The film also featured Mamitha Baiju, KS Ravikumar, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunas, and Jayaram in significant roles, with music by GV Prakash Kumar, cinematography by Theni Eswar, and editing by Sreejith Sarang.

Beyond "Om Chapter 1," Dhanush has several other projects in the pipeline. He is scheduled to collaborate with director Tamizharasan Pachamuthu on an upcoming venture and recently announced another partnership with critically acclaimed director Vetrimaaran for a film titled "Thamizh Murugan."
