Speculation is rife that acclaimed filmmaker Mani Ratnam is considering a new project with actor Suriya, potentially marking their second collaboration nearly two decades after their 2004 action film, Aaytha Ezhuthu. While no official announcements have been made, industry buzz suggests a reunion could be on the horizon, dependent on several factors.

A Potential Second Collaboration

According to reports, Mani Ratnam has expressed interest in directing Suriya once more. The director reportedly narrated a story to Suriya approximately eight years ago and is now looking to update that script with relevant modifications. The realization of this project, however, hinges on Suriya's final approval and will only move forward after Mani Ratnam completes his next directorial venture, Inji Vellam, which is set to star Vijay Sethupathi and Sai Pallavi.

Suriya's Packed Schedule

Suriya has a busy slate of projects in the pipeline. He is slated to headline the action entertainer Scene, directed by Jithu Madhavan, where he will share the screen with Nazriya Nazim Fahadh and Naslen. Additionally, he is involved in the tentatively titled SuriyaXHombale, also known as Suriya 48. This film is being directed by TJ Gnanavel and produced by Hombale Films, featuring Kayadu Lohar and Yogi Babu in significant roles.

Suriya was last seen in the romantic drama Vishwanath & Sons, directed by Venky Atluri. In the film, he portrayed Sanjay Vishwanath, an industrialist who becomes a father via surrogacy and forms an unexpected bond with a medical student named Maddy, played by Mamitha Baiju. The cast also included Radikaa Sarathkumar, Raveena Tandon, Sunil Reddy, Harika, Nassar, and Rajiv Menon.

Their Previous Work Together

Suriya and Mani Ratnam previously joined forces for Aaytha Ezhuthu, an action drama released in 2004. In the film, Suriya starred alongside R. Madhavan and Siddharth. The narrative was loosely inspired by the life of George Reddy. Notably, the movie was simultaneously shot in Hindi as Yuva, featuring an entirely different cast, with the exception of Esha Deol.

What's Next

Fans will need to await official confirmation from either Suriya or Mani Ratnam regarding this potential collaboration. Until then, the focus remains on their respective upcoming projects, with Mani Ratnam preparing for Inji Vellam and Suriya juggling his diverse acting commitments.
