Actor John Abraham is preparing for an intense new role, headlining an upcoming thriller directed by Ribhu Dasgupta. Production for the yet-untitled film, backed by Reliance Entertainment, is scheduled to commence in London later this month, marking a significant new project for the star.
A Demanding New Character
The role for Abraham in this new thriller is described as particularly challenging, requiring him to explore a more layered and performance-driven space within the genre. Sources close to the production suggest the character will demand "a different side of the actor," combining significant physicality with deep emotional complexity.
A source close to the project indicated that the role demands "a different side of the actor," requiring both "physicality and emotions." The insider added that "John has the intensity and screen presence that this character requires," expressing confidence that he will "pull it off" a part that is "a lot more to his character than what meets the eye" and that the actor has been "very involved with understanding the part."
Ribhu Dasgupta's Thriller Pedigree
The collaboration between Abraham and Dasgupta is particularly noteworthy given the director's established track record in the thriller genre. Dasgupta has previously helmed acclaimed films such as "Te3n" and "The Girl on the Train," both known for their gripping narratives and suspenseful execution. His experience in crafting intricate thrillers is expected to bring a compelling vision to this new project.
Balancing Diverse Acting Challenges
This thriller adds to Abraham's increasingly diverse slate of projects. He is simultaneously undergoing a major physical transformation for his upcoming film "Maria IPS," directed by Rohit Shetty. In "Maria IPS," Abraham portrays police officer Rakesh Maria across several decades of his life, reportedly bulking up for the character's younger years and subsequently losing weight for later stages.
With both the Dasgupta thriller and "Maria IPS," Abraham appears to be embracing two distinct challenges, pushing his boundaries both physically and in terms of performance depth.
