Jason Sanjay, son of Kollywood superstar Thalapathy Vijay, recently shared his aspirations to direct his celebrated father, revealing a particular interest in showcasing Vijay’s rarely-seen humorous side on screen. This ambition comes as Sanjay himself prepares for his directorial debut with the upcoming action-adventure film, Sigma.
Unveiling a Different Facet of Thalapathy Vijay
Sanjay expressed his fondness for his father's comedic timing and lighthearted demeanor, a quality he frequently observes in their personal life. He noted that Vijay possesses an "inner child-like nature" that fuels his sense of humor, a facet he believes has been less prominent in the actor's recent full-fledged roles. "His sense of humour is something I really enjoy watching," Sanjay stated, adding that if given the opportunity to direct him, he would "explore that side of my father."
Family Legacy and Professional Values
Discussing his journey into filmmaking, Sanjay also recalled a conversation with his grandfather, director-actor SA Chandrasekhar. While specifics of a story weren't delved into, Chandrasekhar offered crucial advice: never display hesitation or doubt to others while on set. Sanjay further credited both his father and grandfather for instilling in him a strong professional work ethic, emphasizing his father's consistent punctuality as a prime example.
'Sigma' – Sanjay's Debut Vision
Sanjay's inaugural directorial project, Sigma, is an action-adventure narrative centered on Guru, a maverick treasure hunter and radio host. Guru's life takes a dramatic turn following a significant betrayal, leading him to lose everything. Driven by a desire for retribution, he embarks on a mission to dismantle a formidable Rs 500-crore criminal enterprise, orchestrated by the ruthless Kotlapadi Veeraiya Reddy. Unable to directly confront the powerful syndicate, Guru devises an intricate heist plan alongside his allies. However, unforeseen betrayals and twists threaten to derail his efforts, forcing Guru to rely on his innate instincts and resolve to outwit Reddy and reclaim what was unjustly taken.
What's Next
The film features Sundeep Kishan in the leading role, supported by a cast including Faria Abdullah, Sampath Raj, Shiv Panditt, and Yog Japee. Thaman S is composing the music for Sigma, which is currently slated for release on October 2, 2026. This project marks a significant milestone for Jason Sanjay as he steps into the world of Tamil cinema as a director, following in the footsteps of his influential father and grandfather.
