The highly anticipated sci-fi time-travel collaboration between director Venkat Prabhu and actor Sivakarthikeyan has officially been put on hold, with the filmmaker himself confirming the project's shelving amidst recent speculation.
Rumors Emerge Following Father's Comments
Reports about the project's status gained traction after veteran musician Gangai Amaran, Venkat Prabhu's father, made comments in a recent interview. He suggested that an unnamed actor had caused delays by wasting his son's allocated filming dates. While the actor's identity was not explicitly stated, many observers quickly connected these remarks to Sivakarthikeyan, given the lack of updates on their joint venture.
Venkat Prabhu's Clarification
Responding to the growing speculation, Venkat Prabhu took to social media to provide a comprehensive clarification. He confirmed that the film would not be moving forward, attributing the decision to "various reasons." The director also addressed his father's comments, explaining that Gangai Amaran "probably doesn’t know the complete picture" and that his frustration was "natural" as a father seeing his son's project delayed. Prabhu emphasized his personal privacy regarding professional matters, stating he doesn't "discuss my professional matters in detail with anyone, including him."
Crucially, Venkat Prabhu dispelled any notions of discord between himself and Sivakarthikeyan, affirming their bond: "SK is always a dear friend/brother to me." He reiterated that there were "No hard feelings" and expressed his desire to work with the actor again "If the time comes and a good script comes my way." He concluded by urging an end to the ongoing rumors.
Sivakarthikeyan Responds
Sivakarthikeyan quickly responded to Venkat Prabhu's public statement, reinforcing their positive relationship. The actor wrote that they are "always family," and playfully questioned the necessity of such a clarification in the first place. He concluded by reaffirming his admiration for the director, stating, "I’ll always be a VP fan. Waiting to collaborate with you soon, sir."
Upcoming Projects for Both Stars
While their sci-fi film is on hold, both Venkat Prabhu and Sivakarthikeyan are actively engaged in other ventures. Venkat Prabhu is currently occupied with his next directorial project. Meanwhile, Sivakarthikeyan is slated to star in Seyon, an action drama directed by Sivakumar Murugesan. Produced by Kamal Haasan and R. Mahendran's Raaj Kamal Films International alongside Turmeric Media, the film features Bhagyashri Borse as the female lead and Raj B. Shetty in a pivotal role, with a targeted release in 2027. Additionally, Sivakarthikeyan has commenced work on his next project, presently referred to as SK27, under the direction of Ramkumar Balakrishnan.
