Television actress Dipika Kakar recently offered a candid look into her personal struggles, revealing she faced body shaming comments while navigating a challenging period of illness and recovery from cancer treatment. The star, known for her role in Sasural Simar Ka and her popular YouTube vlogs, shared her emotional journey with fans, addressing the unsolicited remarks about her weight.
Addressing Unwanted Comments
In a recent video, Dipika explained that during her illness, she encountered numerous remarks concerning her increased weight. She clarified that at that time, her mental and physical state made it impossible to prioritize weight loss. "I used to read comments about facing body shaming while I was ill. I had put on a lot of weight," she shared in her vlog, adding that she "was not in the frame of mind where I felt that losing weight was important for me." She acknowledged various factors for her weight gain, from mental state to increased eating, but stressed her inability to actively pursue weight loss and her acceptance of it.
Prioritizing Self-Care and Mental Well-being
The actress also highlighted how major health challenges can heighten one's self-consciousness about appearance. For Dipika, small acts of self-care have become crucial for rebuilding confidence during her arduous recovery. She mentioned, "when we are going through something so big in our lives we start putting a little more effort into looking good and taking care of ourselves." She specifically cited focusing on her hair care as one such effort, finding solace in these simple routines.
Embracing Reality: 'Not a Superwoman'
Kakar candidly admitted that maintaining a positive outlook doesn't equate to feeling strong consistently. She openly shared that there are days when her body simply lacks the energy, and she allows herself to rest. "I am not some superwoman," she stated, explaining that on days she feels unwell, she remains in bed. However, on days with even a slight improvement, she makes an effort to look presentable and "just try to be okay." She attributed much of her resilience to the unwavering love and support from her dedicated fanbase.
Journey of Recovery and Support
Dipika's husband, actor Shoaib Ibrahim, has also been actively sharing glimpses of their daily lives and health updates with their followers through his own vlogs. Earlier in the month, Dipika had spoken about experiencing common side effects of her treatment, including nausea, weakness, vomiting, and fatigue. She noted that her body is progressively adapting to these challenges. Through her regular vlogs, Dipika continues to provide an honest portrayal of the physical and emotional aspects of her health journey.
